The evening of Feb. 11 saw a large crowd of area women gather at the Jade Palace Restaurant in Caribou to enjoy several hours of laughter and relaxation while digging in their purses for some very unusual items to win prizes as well as collecting shells (even grabbing them from other tables) to see who could amass the most to again gain a prize.

The very first Ladies Night Out sponsored by the members of the Lioness Club was held at the former King Henry’s in 1976. Since that date, club members have continued to commit to endless hours of planning and a great deal of footwork corralling the door-prizes awarded throughout the evening.
Area businesses generously donate items that are used as door prizes with Lioness’ also purchasing gifts to be given away. Each year a special basket, filled with a large variety of items is raffled off with the proceeds going to the Lioness Scholarship Fund.
Always a featured event during the evening is the “Miss Sexy Lips Contest” where ladies plant a kiss on a poster board with the winner determined by Lioness members. This year Ashley King claimed the title of Miss Sexy Lips 2010.
At the beginning of the evening, a lucky ticket is drawn for a very special item, this year a diamond necklace donated by Kay’s Jeweler’s in Presque Isle. Winning this coveted gift was Barbara Scott. Other lucky guests who earned special gifts included Danielle Brewer who came away with the most number of seashells, Tori Barber who guessed the exact number of Hershey Kisses in a jar (139) and the winner of the “Love Basket,” valued at $700, was Paula Evens.
Included in the 2010 Love Basket were: a one night stay in the Honeymoon Suite at the Crown Park Inn in Caribou, valued at $165; a $50 gift for dinner at the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle; ladies and gents satin loungers, a $40 gift item donated by a Lioness member and a $375 gift basket from Macy’s in Bangor that included Sarah Jessica Parker perfume and body lotion products.
Also part of the “Love Basket” were napkins, napkin rings and wine glasses a $15 value from Miller’s in Caribou; a basket, red rose, white carnation and a balloon, a $30 gift value from Noyes’ Flower Shop in Caribou and $25 worth of wine, cheese, crackers, sausage and grapes donated by Sleeper’s in Caribou.
What’s a Ladies Night Out without the appearance of the Kiwanis Keystone Kops?
