Local soldier visits Houlton friends

SSgt James J. Carmichael returned to the Houlton area to visit with his family and friends, Feb. 13.
He returned to his home base of operation in Ft. Drum, N.Y. on Jan. 8, from a 15-month deployment in the northern region of Afghanistan.
SSgt Carmichael, his wife Catherine and children, Jasmine, age eight and William, age 4, traveled to the Houlton area to present the flag of Afghanistan to the members of the Houlton Wesleyan Church in appreciation of the support they gave to him and the soldiers that were based there.
SSgt Carmichael presented an Afghani flag that had been signed by all of the soldiers that benefited from the church’s generosity. As Carmichael stated, “It meant a lot to all of us to be remembered by you all. We are extremely grateful for the boxes. Thank you and God bless you.”
SSgt Carmichael is the son of Pamela Reid from Bloomfield and Jeffrey Carmichael of Houlton.
