Former  tennis coach  corrects the record

To the editor:
    In last week’s edition of the Star-Herald the coach of the Presque Isle High School Boys’ Tennis Team stated that his team had gone farther than any other boys’ team and had made it to the Eastern Maine Finals. Making it to the finals in tennis is no mean feat when you come from northern Maine and they are to be congratulated. 

    However, if he were to search the dusty trophy cases at PIHS he would find the first Eastern Maine Finals trophy won by the 1997 boys’ tennis team. Since I coached that team to a close loss of 3-2 and I was equally proud of Chuck Ames, Luke Gilman, Chris Helstrom, Tyler Woods, Kevin Mahoney, Guillaume Clapier and Nick Lynch, I would hate for their hard work to be overlooked.
    Good luck to the 2010 Wildcat tennis teams.
