MARS HILL
by Tomi Henderson

Saddle up for Saddle Ridge Ranch, set among the stunning vistas and wide open spaces of Big Sky country. Saddle Ridge Ranch is a place where kids can ask questions and discover answers found in God’s Word.

During their time at the ranch, kids will visit Worship Rally Valley and the Bible Study Bunkhouse.  Around the ranch they will also experience crafts at Blazing Star Stables, missions at Firefly Cavern, Music at Campfire Creek, recreation at Mustang Mountain and snacks at the Big Sky Grill.
It’s Vacation Bible School at the United Baptist Church in Mars Hill — like you’ve never experienced before! Children age 4 through grade 5 are admitted free from July 5 to July 9 from 6-8:30 p.m.
Call Edie Jordan at 429-8859 or Pastor Mitch Ross at 429-8069 for more information.
Saddle Ridge Ranch will be an event to remember. Come join in the fun!!

Rotary Club

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, June 8, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
The special speaker was Rick Duncan of Presque Isle. He spoke of Neighbor’s First, Inc. — a nonprofit, Christ-centered organization focused on serving the needs of the poor and bringing hope through spiritual and physical building.
Founded a few years ago, the organization has a 10-man board of directors. There are around 18 members that help do various projects locally and abroad. Locally, the group has done updates and renovations for The Lighthouse in Presque Isle, replaced a roof on a home in Houlton and set up a mobile home for an individual in Presque Isle.
In Guatemala in 2009, the group spent 10 days building a home for a pastor. This was done in conjunction with the Christian Cultural Center of Guatemala and will allow Pastor Oscar to continue to minister for the Gospel in his area. The Center believes that the country can be changed by changing the children, so they do many projects and run programs that focus on reaching and caring for children.
This October, 16 people plan on going again to Guatemala to construct a church. For more information,  contact Rick Duncan or Mark Carter, President NFI at www.neighborsfirst.org for more information. Folks can help by donating financially, by sponsoring a special project or through prayer.

New historical society

The Rotary Club of Mars Hill is sponsoring the formation of an historical society to include the communities of Blaine, E-Plantation, Mars Hill, Robinson and Westfield. A committee of local citizens interested in preserving and promoting the history of the area has worked for several months to lay the groundwork for the organization. The Organizational Committee plans to hold an informational meeting for any interested people from these areas on Monday, June 21, at 7 p.m. in the Central Aroostook High School cafeteria on Pleasant Street, Mars Hill.
Since the historical group is just starting up, we urge local citizens not to throw away old items that might be of interest. We encourage you all to save old items and contact one of the committee members before discarding them. Committee members include: Natasha Brewer, Betsy York, Sandra Leighton, Wendy Grass, Kathy Miller, Jenna Cousins, Dave Peers, Ryan Shaw, Matt Shaw and Steve Hitchcock. You can contact the group at Post Office Box 293 Mars Hill, ME 04758.

Library auction

There is an online auction to benefit the Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library. Over 114 items are currently listed at www.WTAHANSENLIBRARY@biddingforgood.org.
The goal this year is to raise funds to make updates to the library. Several grants have been applied for, but some of them require the library to come up with a portion of the funds in order to get the full awarded amounts.
This is an exciting and fun way to help the library and at the same time have a chance to win cool items.  Your support is very necessary, so please check out the website to see what is available.
More items will be added as they are donated, so check the site often. For more information, or to donate items, please contact Ryan Shaw at 429-9500 or at rshaw24@yahoo.com.

Correction

A Recognition Night photo of Senior Class members should have identified Paige Findlen as a six-year honoree. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
