EASTON NEWS

by Debbie Smith

The Easton Wesleyan Church in Easton invites everyone to a farewell party for Rev. Matthew Maxwell and family on June 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Easton Elementary School Gymnasium. Everyone is invited to join us so please mark your calendar.

Pastor Matt has ministered to many people over the past 14 years while here in Easton and has probably had an impact on you and your family. He was a friend to all, regardless of what church people attended or didn’t attend. He visited in the hospital, married couples, buried love ones, counseled, prayed for everyone and visited many. We want to honor him and his family before they leave for his new position as senior pastor in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Food pantry

Pastor Vaughn Martin would like to express his heartfelt appreciation to the entire community of Easton for financial assistance, collection of food items and volunteerism to the Friends Helping Friends Food Pantry.
Two years ago in June 2008, the town of Easton came together to start the food pantry. Since then we have been able to assist many of our friends and neighbors. We have experienced hard economic times, some have lost jobs and others have just fallen on hard times. The Food Pantry has been there to lend a helping hand.
Pastor Vaughn recently attended a food safety workshop. He was able to learn about the existing state regulations, which have helped bring the pantry up to par. This has been a very positive step. As a result, there is a need for more volunteers. We need to pull the existing shelves out away from the walls to allow proper air flow. This will require some help removing all the items from the shelves, moving and supporting the shelves and then restocking them.
We also must check the expiration dates on every item received by the Pantry as they come in each month. In addition, there is a need for volunteers who would be available once a month to pick up frozen foods in Fort Fairfield to keep our freezers full.
We have some wonderful volunteers and all they do is appreciated very much. We would enjoy having even more volunteers who can assist with the above needs. If you are interested, please contact Pastor Vaughn Martin at 488-6608 or 227-3589.

Correction

Last week’s Star-Herald had two names underneath pictures mixed up. The pictures were of Brian Young and his date for the prom, which stated that it was Eric Gray and his date; and the other was Eric Gray and his date and it was supposed to be Brian Young. Also, under Caleb Bomar it said Chris Bomar instead of Caleb. We are so sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
