HOULTON — The Varney Insurance Agency of Houlton has announced the addition of Karen Murphy as personal lines customer service representative. Murphy has been with the Varney Agency in the Calais branch for several years, earning her agent’s license in 2007. She will be joining the Houlton branch as of June 14.

Murphy was raised in upstate New York where she received her bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York in Plattsburgh. It was there that she met her husband Patrick. The couple moved to Texas in 1989 where her husband was stationed with the Border Patrol. She worked in banking while in Texas.
The couple moved to Caribou with their daughter and son in 1997 and in 2001 the family was transferred back to Plattsburgh, N.Y. where she continued her banking work as Branch Supervisor for NBT Bank.
The Murphy family includes Karen’s husband Patrick who is employed by the Border Patrol, a daughter who will begin college for nursing at the University of Maine at Fort Kent this fall and a son who will be a high school junior in the fall. The family’s interests include gardening, camping and fishing.
Murphy joins the Houlton branch of the Varney Agency, adding to the 50 years of experience in that branch. Branch Manager Catherine Davis has been employed with the Varney family for over 20 years and earned her CIC designation in 1995. Davis is a commercial account specialist. Wendy Webb has been with the Varneys for 17 years and primarily handles personal lines.
