All-conference squads selected

The Penobscot Valley Conference recently announced their all-conference teams for the fall sports season, and several student-athletes and coaches from both Caribou and Presque Isle were recognized for their achievements.
Making the boys’ first team in cross country for large schools in the PVC were Caribou’s Christian Sleeper, D.J. Flynn, Caleb Chapman, Jesse Sandstrom and Ryan Washington and Presque Isle’s Matt Eager. They were joined by Ellsworth’s Dan Curts, Blake Pattengale and Neal Anderson and John Bapst’s Alex Beals.

On the second team were Caribou’s Kjetil Rossignol and Jake Michaud and Presque Isle’s Logan Thibeau. Others were Mount Desert Island’s Sam Swann, Ellsworth’s Stephen Kirby, Kody Holmes and and Brayden Beardsley; and John Bapst’s Connor Wagner and Matt Spear.
Members of the girls’ first team were Caribou’s Mackenzie Belyea and Presque Isle’s Alecia Palmer. Others were Old Town’s Dacie Manion; John Bapst’s Adrienne Carmack, Mary Carmack and Amanda Lalime; Ellsworth’s Aleta Looker and Brianne Dunn; and MDI’s Olivia Erickson and Malia Demers.
The second team included Caribou’s Mary Jo Sheehan and Dayna Michaud; Presque Isle’s Emily Wright; MDI’s Nora Hubbell, Maggie Painter, Kailyn Russell and Paige Klausky; John Bapst’s Maggie Bryan and Laura Donovan; and Ellsworth’s Jamie Ford.
In golf, those named to the Class B team were Caribou’s Ben Wyman and Presque Isle’s Travis Dyer and Evan Waddell, along with Ellsworth’s Greg Martin and Nick Richies, Foxcroft Academy’s Zach Evans and Colby Snell, John Bapst’s Josh McEwen, Hermon’s Tyler Fournier and Old Town’s Sam Peabody.
Selected to the Class B girls soccer first team were Caribou’s Morgan Swan, Jenna Selander and Olivia Sleeper and Presque Isle’s Kayla Richards and Chelsea Nickerson. Also on the elite squad were Ellsworth’s Cristin Wright, Old Town’s Katie Deschaine and Micayla Hussey, MDI’s Jamie McKay, Bucksport’s Mindy Pye and Hermon’s Jessica Allen.
Making the second team were Caribou’s Jamie Martin and Presque Isle’s Chandler Guerrette and Megan Ireland, along with Old Town’s Annie Cashon and Ashley England, Mattanawcook’s Brittany Libbey, Ellsworth’s Taylor White, MDI’s Courtney Sullivan, Hermon’s Amanda Allen, Bucksport’s Sadie Wight and John Bapst’s Victoria Miller.
Jenna Selander of Caribou was named player of the year and Caribou’s Todd Albert shared coach of the year honors with Hermon’s Stori Shaw.
Earning berths on the Class B boys soccer first team were Caribou’s Chad Caverhill and Presque Isle’s Josh Allen and Isaac LaJoie. Other conference players selected were Ellsworth’s Jordan Carter, Andrew Austin, Mike Curtis, Josh Bean and Cote Card; Old Town’s Jake Leitheiser; Hermon’s Kevin Frederick and MDI’s Ben Steel.
Named to the second team were Presque Isle’s Andrew Legassie, Wilder York and Brandon Bonville, along with John Bapst’s Adam Strang and Rickey Jones, Old Town’s Jared Winchenbach, Hermon’s Braddock Deabay, Justin McHugh and Taylor Gross; MDI’s Sam Burr and Ellsworth’s Kyle Haslam.
Presque Isle’s Josh Allen shared player of the year honors with Ellsworth’s Andrew Austin, while Brian Higgins of Ellsworth was the choice for coach of the year.

TOP GOLFER – Evan Waddell of the Presque Isle Wildcats’ varsity golf team was named to the Penobscot Valley Conference Class B all-conference first team. Waddell registered a top-10 performance at the PVC championship meet Sept. 30 at JaTo Highlands in Lincoln and joined teammate Travis Dyer on the elite team.

PCV HONOREE – Emily Wright of the Presque Isle Wildcats’ cross country team picked up second team all-conference honors for her efforts this fall. Wright’s honor was based on her finish at the PVC championship meet held Oct. 16 in Bangor.

ELITE RUNNER – Junior Matt Eager of Presque Isle High School earned Penobscot Valley Conference first team status in boys cross country this past fall. Eager was selected based on his top-10 finish in the PVC championship meet in Bangor held Oct. 16. Logan Thibeau, Alecia Palmer and Emily Wright were other Wildcats recognized by the conference.
