To the editor:
I am urging those who can to donate large print books and magazines to area libraries, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes and hospitals. I strongly believe these facilities should make televisions, computers and reading materials accessible to anyone with vision impairment.
My 91-year-old grandmother had to purchase her own text magnifier to use in her home. Recently she was in the hospital and then rehab and missed being able to read, although she did have the use of books on tape. I purchased a magnifying screen to slide under her TV; these vary in cost according to the size of the TV (or computer) but could be moved from room to room. Simple magnifying sheets that can be placed over a book or magazine page can be found right at Staples and do not cost much at all.
Please give the gift of reading and viewing enjoyment to those who cannot see well by donating equipment to facilities that need them. See www.largeprintreviews.com, www.rehabmart.com or www.independantliving.com to order aids to donate. My grandmother and I thank you!
