CONNOR – An 18-year-old Perham woman was killed Monday afternoon after she lost control of her vehicle and struck a tree.
According to Sgt. Tom Pelletier of the Maine State Police, Felicia D. Cochran was eastbound on the Jemtland Road in Connor when she failed to negotiate a turn and her 1999 Ford Windstar van left the road and struck a tree.
“Her vehicle left the roadway on the south side of the Jemtland Road and struck a tree head on,” said Pelletier. “Cochran received severe trauma from the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Cochran was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The accident occurred one mile west from the intersection of U.S. Route 1 at about 3:05 p.m.
Pelletier said the vehicle sustained extensive damage to the total passenger compartment and roof of the van. It was a total loss. The Caribou Fire and the North Lakes Fire departments responded. Cochran had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Speed and ice are considered to be factors in the crash. Trooper Kim Espling is investigating the case. He is being assisted by Trooper Dan Marquis and Warden Ryan Fitzpatrick.
