The Viking wrestling team had a solid week of competition, winning at home against Fort Kent last Wednesday and taking three of four matches Saturday at Foxcroft Academy.
“We had a good week,” said Caribou coach Todd Albert. “We had some real good close matches against some good teams.”
The Vikes defeated Dexter and Foxcroft Academy on Saturday and Albert said those two squads, along with Fort Kent, have solid Class C programs.
Deion Caudill and Jason Case sported perfect records over the five matches. Albert said Colby Conroy won a key match over Jacob Tardiff in last Wednesday’s match against the Warriors, and Case did the same when he pinned Zack Smith to secure Caribou’s win over Dexter.
The match against Foxcroft came down to the result by Brendon Wood. Caribou led by six points, so Wood had to avoid being pinned to allow for the team victory by the Vikes. Even though Wood lost by an 11-2 decision, Albert said Wood “was more happy about the team winning than his individual result.”
Overall, the veteran coach is happy about his team’s 7-1 start.
“It is still early in the season and we have a lot of work to do to get better, but the potential is there,” he said.
