A County native with a long list of achievements in the stock car world will be joining Andy Santerre on Saturday, Feb. 12, for the annual Sno-Run to help raise funds for AMHC.

“Late model stock car champion driver Shawn Martin will join Andy to help raise awareness and funds for child victims of sexual assault in Aroostook County by supporting AMHC’s Sexual Assault Services. Shawn will participate on snowmobile with over 100 riders in the 100-mile Sno-Run circuit, autograph session/happy hour, banquet dinner and charity auction,” said event organizer Joe Chamberlain.

All festivities will take place at the Caribou Inn & Convention Center, with the exception of the ride — which will begin and end at the facility.

“During the Sno-Run event, the participants will be arranging their snowmobiles in a unique design in the snow with the help of the Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club at their brand new clubhouse in Chapman. Paul Cyr of Northern Maine Photos will be doing a flyover and will photograph the group once the pattern is formed,” said Chamberlain.

The club will also be hosting a luncheon for the Sno-Run participants after the flyover.

Martin’s accomplishments including racing locally, as well as accomplishments at tracks across the state.

“Shawn has a long list of accomplishments in his racing career, which began at Spud Speedway in Caribou. He was raised in Frenchville and now resides in Turner,” Chamberlain said.

Martin currently races a 2010 Race Basics Chevy Impala in the Weekly Racing Series at Oxford Plains Speedway, along with a limited schedule in the American Canadian Tour.

“A few of Shawn’s achievements include: 2004 Late Model Sportsman Champion, 2004 and 2006 Iron Man Series Champion, 2008 Triple Crown Champion, two-time ACT Tour winner, 2010 Spud 150 winner and the list goes on and on, including 26 career wins,” said Chamberlain, noting Martin is looking forward to seeing old fans and friends and making new ones while in The County.

As with past events, Chamberlain said Santerre will bring along with him several NASCAR-affiliated stars from the racing world.

“This event has been sold out six years running, so get your tickets ASAP,” advised Chamberlain.
