Rep. Peter Edgecomb (R-Caribou) is shown here testifying before the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee members who gathered in the committee room to hear testimony on LD 241, “An Act To Promote Energy Independence and Renewable Energy Production.” Boralex Inc. is an alternative energy producer which runs a thermal power plant in Ashland. Currently, Boralex is not included in the Public Utilities Commission’s standard-offer service. Without inclusion in the offer, Boralex may be forced to close indefinitely on Feb. 28. The area would lose roughly 75 jobs if the plant is forced to shut down.
