KEENE, NH – Althea E. “Ally” Jordan 87, of Washington Street, NH, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the Westwood Care and Rehabilitation Center, Keene, following a brief illness. She was born in Mapleton, May 20, 1923, the daughter of Lewis and Marie (Elliot) McPherson. At the age of two, she moved to Castle Hill, where she spent her childhood on her father’s potato farm. As a young child, she enjoyed horseback riding, swimming and making homemade ice cream.

A resident of Keene for over sixty years, Mrs. Jordan was proud to call Keene her home.  She loved people and politics, and made it a point over the last 40 years to meet all of the Presidential candidates when they came to Keene. Her favorite was former President Bill and Hilary Clinton.  Following the death of her husband in 1969, Mrs. Jordan began working at the Keene Community Kitchen and continued working there for 30 years, considering this her second home. She was a longtime member of the Swanzey VFW Post 799 Auxiliary and most recently, the Keene VFW Post 799 Auxiliary. She loved playing the harmonica and guitar, and singing. She enjoyed listening to country western music. She loved fried potatoes, fiddleheads and chocolate cream pie. Mrs. Jordan was an avid Red Sox fan, always listening to the games on the radio. She routed for her team in good or bad times, and for her 80th birthday, she went to Boston to attend a game at Fenway Park.

She is survived by three sisters: Margaret Bolduc of Swanzey, NH, Dorene Archer of Chapman, ME, and Mary Hull of Gilsum, NH; and many nieces and nephews including three nieces who cared for Mrs. Jordan over the past five years: Linda (Cray) Seymour of Charlestown, NH, Judy (Cray) Konesko of Charlestown, and Shirley (Hall) Benson of Lynn, Mass. She is also survived by a special friend, Christine Wold of Keene.

Her husband of 19 years, Omar D. Jordan, whom she married on March 9, 1950, died November 7, 1969. She was predeceased by three brothers: Wallace McPherson in 1955, Melvin McPherson in 2002, Stephen McPherson in 1974; and a sister, Hilda Hall in 2009.

A funeral service was held Monday morning, February 28, 2011, at 11 a.m., in the Foley Funeral Home (www.foleyfuneralhome.com, 49 Court Street, Keene. Rev. Donn F. Williams, Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Troy, NH, officiated. Burial followed in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene. Family and friends were invited to call on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Foley Funeral Home.
