The Pre-Teen, Junior and Teen pageant will be held on Saturday, April 9, at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and students. Children 5 and under are free.
PTCO fundraiser
The Fort Street Elementary School PTCO will be holding a Pampered Chef BINGO fundraiser on Saturday, April 9, at 2 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The cost is $25 for a full book of cards and $30 for an extra sheet per game.
There will be 10 games in all, with prize values going from $60 to the $450 blackout game. Prizes include the grilling pan, manual food processor, deep-covered baker and a seven-piece executive cookware set.
There will be door prizes drawn between games for even more chances to win!
Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning, March 29, at 6:30 at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Rotarian Roger Shaw, who updated the club on the superintendent for the local school. He is phasing out his involvement, while Marc Gendron will be taking over as head of both CAHS and Fort Fairfield.
Special guests were the contestants for the Miss Greater Mars Hill pageant: Mariah Brewer, Chelsea Stiggle, Patricia Donovan, Lindsey Watson, Whitney Klein and Tanika Klinger, along with their directors, Mikala Woollard and Janine Stackpole. Also present was Little Miss director, Kassandra Dominique.
Bottle drive
There will be a bottle drive for the Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library during the month of April. Anyone willing to help can drop off their cans and bottles at the local redemption center, mentioning that they are for the library. You can also drop off bagged bottles during regular library hours: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.; Wednesday, 6:30-8:30 p.m.; or Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon.
Benefit dinner
There will be a benefit dinner for Evan Bretzke on Saturday, April 23, at Central Aroostook High School. Originally from Limestone, Evan was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Evan and his wife, Alishia (Grow), will be traveling to Dana Farber in Boston for his treatments.
A dinner of beans, hotdogs, rolls, coleslaw, potato salad and apple crisp will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Cost is by donation. Proceeds will be used to assist them with medical and travel expenses.
There will be music by the Shaw family, an auction by Bert Winslow, as well as a silent auction. For more information, contact Tiffany Faulkner at 227-7195.

Kindergarten registration
SAD 42 will be having registration for the 3-, 4- and 5-year-old programs for the 2011-12 school year. The registration will be held on Thursday, April 14, at the Fort Street School and is open to 3-, 4- and 5-year-old children of the Mars Hill, Blaine and Bridgewater area.
Pre-school students must be either 3 or 4 years of age on or before Oct. 15. Students who will be 5 years of age on or before Oct. 15 are eligible for kindergarten. Contact Fort Street School at 429-8514 or 429-8515 to schedule an appointment to register your child.
The state of Maine requires: proof of immunizations and a birth certificate. (Hospital copies are not acceptable. A copy must be obtained from the municipal office of the town or city where you were living when the child was born.) SAD 42 requires these documents at the time of registration.
Parents registering children for the 3- and 4-year-old programs are asked to bring proof of income to the appointment. If you are not a legal parent, a copy of guardianship papers (probate court) must be completed before registration. Those students currently enrolled in the 4-year-old program do not need to register. If you have any questions, call the school for further details.
