SHERMAN – Stephen James “Jim” Dyer, 65, died March 22, 2011, at his home. He was born June 11, 1945, at Island Falls, son of Laurence and Marjorie (Greenlaw) Dyer.
He graduated from Oakfield High School and attended Ricker College where he was in the Pi Gamma Delta fraternity. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in Vietnam. He retired from the Maine Forest Service after 25 years, was a past volunteer member of Houlton Fire Department, member of Island Falls Lodge No. 206 AF & AM and Anah Shriners, Bangor, an avid golfer, and loved playing cards, especially “Let it Ride.” Jim was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.
He was survived by his wife of 37 years, Carole (Marsh) Dyer of Sherman; two sons, Jake and his wife, Hannah, of Old Town, and Alex and Nicole of Durham; three grandchildren, Callum, Finn and Ada; one brother, Roger and his wife, Katherine Dyer, of Houlton; one sister, Beth and her husband, Richard Trout, of Fort Collins, Colo.; three aunts; several nieces and cousins; a sister-in-law, Ann Reardon and Barney Wort; and several close friends too numerous to mention.
Friends called 1-3 p.m. Sunday at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls, with services beginning 3 p.m. conducted by Island Falls Lodge No. 206. Spring interment will be at Oakfield Cemetery.
