A total of 28 members and one guest met at the Oakfield Snowmobile Club for the first meeting in April. How did everyone like the April fools joke played on us by Mother Nnature? After a very good lunch we had the flag salute and the Lord’s Prayer. At the business meeting we had the treasurer’s and the secretary’s report, which were voted on and accepted. We had cake and ice cream for Roger and Shirley Either on the occasion of their marriage.

We had quite a few birthdays this month. We sang Happy Birthday to our friends. Wanetta’s card report was given and cards were sent to our sick friends. The club was decorated for Easter by Marie Gillotti good job. Sorry about forgetting your name last week.

Ricker Rumblings
by Lois Downing

Hello everyone. Nice sunny day here on this Sunday, as this is written. Thank you, Lord for this beautiful day. Happy Birthday to Molly Bailey on her 80th birthday! Many more to come for this lovely, energetic lady. We love you, Molly.

Everyone is going away—Paul Armstrong and his bride Jeannie left Saturday for Bangor where they stayed overnight. They then were to board a plane for Arizona to visit with Paul’s family. They were not sure when they were going to return to Maine.

Blaine Johnson left Monday morning for Bangor where he will spend overnight with his sister and they fly to Iowa to visit his in-laws. Blaine will be gone for several weeks. Happy visit, Blaine. I’ll miss you.

Peggy Robinson is already in Florida having left a few days ago. Peggy is visiting her son Eric and his wife and will be away for a month.

My closing this week is “Grant me strenth so I can meet each new challenge this day will bring.” Have a happy, safe and healthy week everyone.

Island Falls News

The fifth Lenten breakfast was held April 10 at the Whittier Congregational Church and I was the head chef on this one. Had lots of help, with Pastor John Stevens doing the bacon and also doing the eggs. His wife Shelly helped with the toast. Verna Boone was there to assist with it all and, of course, our faithful waitress. Marion Hoar was there to take the orders and deliver some. The menu was juice, coffee, fruit cup, bacon, sausage, eggs, homemade bread toasted and, as a special treat, homemade doughnut holes.

Also, at every table setting there were small mesh bags of jellybeans, to be eaten there or taken home. All was much enjoyed and fellowship abounded during the morning.

Katahdin Public Library is starting a preschool story time for ages 3-5, which will be every Thursday morning, starting at 10:30 a.m. Besides the stories there will be other activities and this will be for approximately 30 minutes.

I was in Bangor on Wednesday with Clayton and Charlene Webb and we did some shopping, and I consulted with my doctor there also. The weather was prefect and we had a good day all around. Have been having a time keeping one bird feeder away from the coon who has been invading it and ripping off the loop I use to hang it on the cedar tree.

Finally have taken to bringing the feeder in at night as I was running out of stuff to tie it up with. Leave the smaller feeders out but do not put very many seeds in them, just enough to feed the nuthatches, chickadees, juncos, blue jays before they go to bed. And the other day I had two mourning doves sitting one on the ground and one in the cedar tree so guess they are here for the season. I like to hear them in the summer. Still have the faithful three deer that arrive every evening for their snack and then they drift way down back where part of my lawn is bare and have a good time finding stuff to eat. One has a special place where she lies down for a snooze and she does this quite often now while the other two are busily grazing.

Present were: Fred and Annie Atkinson, Margorie and Richard Hall, Linniea Perry, Bonita Staples, Donna Grass, Eva Perry, Frances Gorman and Sandra Qualey.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly Chapter 0233 of Houlton met at the Aldergate building for its April 8 meeting. The last meeting was cancelled because of a snowstorm. Eighteen members were weighed; five were KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly).

Reports were given by secretary Lois Downing and weight recorder Joanne Scott. A card signed by members was given to Janice Shaw in the loss of her mother, Dorothy.

Joyce Estey led the meeting. She installed new officers using a program taken from one of the TOPS’ magazines. The officers are: Denise Clark, leader; co-leader, Diane Folsom; assistant weight recorder, Joanne Scott; weight recorder, Denise Clark, secretary, Charlotte Marley. Each received a TOPS pin and a gift.

The skinny dish drawing was held over. Charlotte Marley gave a report of the workshop in Van Buren. Pictures were taken of the new officers. The new leader spoke briefly after the installation. The next meeting is April 15 at the same location.
