Club gets update on proposed fair exhibit
EASTON NEWS
by Debbie Smith
The Easton Kiwanis Club met for their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 19th, with Mike Cyr leading the Salute to the Flag and Bernard Hussey saying the Blessing.
A delicious spaghetti supper with Mike Allen’s special sauce was enjoyed by all in attendance.
After the meal and the opening of the meeting, Jessica Blackstone spoke to the group about a new exhibition that would be starting at the Northern Maine Fair in Presque Isle this August. It is to be called “Little Hands on the Farm,” She showed slides of this exhibit held at the Iowa State Fair and explained how it would enlighten children on where and how their food is grown with a hands-on experience. There would also be a sheep barn and maybe even a fake cow that young visitors could milk and other interesting things that they could enjoy doing. The Future Farmers of America are building three small 10-foot by 12-foot barns with lumber donated by Huber Engineered Woods.
Blackstone said there will be a need for some financial support as well as volunteers to help by the end of May. She was quite excited about this project, hoping that there would those willing to help at the Fair.
The Club was approached about holding a Pampered Chef’s Party and it was agreed to do so at the last meeting in May.
Those in attendance at this meeting were guests from the Presque Isle Kiwanis Club, Kathie Beaulieu, Kris Menta, Sherry Locke and Nicki Shields; and from Easton, Mike and Loris Allen, Tom and Ann Osgood, Richard and Jeannie Kneeland, Clair and Eldora Carter, Mike Cyr, Bernard Hussey, Harold Clark, Barbara Blackstone, Jessica Blackstone and Jeremy Corey.

Softball in Easton
There has been interest expressed about having a co-ed adult summer softball league. We haven’t hammered out all the details; rather we will have sponsored teams or just a “pick-up” league. Please let me know if you have interest in participating or know someone who might. We would like to begin this league in May and have it end on Field Days weekend (July 9). Any questions please call Hillary at 551-7737 or write to eastonrec@myfairpoint.net.
