Major headliners booked for

‘Feed the County Summerfest’

Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson, and Cowboy Troy to play Spud Speedway Aug. 20

CARIBOU — Big names in the country music world Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson and Cowboy Troy are scheduled to perform at Spud Speedway in Caribou this summer.

President of Aroostook Savings and Loan John Swanberg recently announced that his financial institution is teaming up with Catholic Charities of Maine, WAGM-TV8 and Spud Speedway to put on an benefit concert titled “Feed the County Summerfest.”

With the financial assistance of Aroostook Savings and Loan, the three headliners will perform on Saturday, Aug. 20 in Caribou at Spud Speedway.

“This is a very unique situation where everyone is coming together so 100 percent of the proceeds from the event will be going to the ‘Feed the County’ project,” Swanberg said.

For the past eight years, the “Feed the County” campaign has been spearheaded by Aroostook Savings and Loan and WAGM-TV8 to promote hunger awareness in northern Maine. “Feed the County” contributions can be made by means of non-perishable food items and donated financial resources assist with the purchase of foods on behalf of Catholic Charities for distribution to the 24 food pantries serviced by the organization from St. Francis to Wytopitlock.

“Every dollar made over the necessary cost of putting on the show will be placed toward the ‘Feed the County’ campaign,” Swanberg said. “With gas and heating oil prices approaching $4 per gallon, people are hurting financially. Having a benefit concert is an excellent way for people to enjoy some awesome music and still give to a great cause,” he added.

With three nationally recognized performers to headline the event, the price of advance tickets are just under $50.

“Since 2011 is Aroostook Savings and Loan’s anniversary, the organization wanted to do something unique and meaningful to celebrate 75 years of service to Aroostook County. This was a great way to give back to our community we have grown with all these years,” Swanberg said.

The financial goal of the benefit concert is to sell 7,500 tickets and raise $75,000 to make sure no one goes hungry in northern Maine. Event organizers are asking individuals to support this worthy cause by purchasing concert tickets or by make a tax deductible cash donation to “Feed the County Summerfest,” c/o Aroostook Savings and Loan, P.O.
