FORT FAIRFIELD — The 2011 regular season high soccer schedule is under way in Aroostook County and one of the first games saw the Fort Fairfield Tigers boys and girls hosting the Van Buren Crusaders on Monday, Aug. 15.

The Tigers controlled play for the first half with plenty of scoring opportunities. At 27:21 Austin Bernier took a pass from Collin Cassidy and converted it for the first goal of the game. At 15:22 Andrew Tuck scored unassisted.
Coming out in the second half Van Buren got some momentum. The Crusaders managed to get a few more shots on goal and one of those by Caleb Roy found the back of the net at 23:28.
As Van Buren tried to get the equalizer it opened up additional scoring chances for Fort Fairfield. Derrick Dufour took a pass from Austin Bernier, which was about three feet off the ground, and in one motion with his left foot, scored the goal. Mikey McLellan added another goal with about three minutes remaining.
Fort Fairfield won 4-1.
Tiger’s goalie Chris Weeks had five saves on seven shots for the Tigers and Mark Lavoie of Van Buren had seven saves on 18 shots.
In the second game of the night, Logan Bubar scored the winning goal 33:10 into the game to give Fort Fairfield to a 2-1 girls soccer victory over Van Buren.
Kylie Plourde picked up the assist on the winning goal for the 1-0 Tigers. Sarah Owens scored an unassisted goal 24:32 into the game.
Katy Donovan stopped seven of eight shots.
Haley Lizotte scored for 0-1 Van Buren on an assist from Parise Rossignol 20 minutes into the second half. Ashlie Wilson made seven saves on 12 shots.
