SCARBOROUGH — A Washburn resident turned in five outstanding performances while competing in the 25th annual Maine Senior Games State Track and Field Meet, which took place on Saturday, August 6 at Scarborough High School.

James Chico Hernandez competed in the 55-59 age group, taking first place in the high jump, second in the javelin throw and also placed second in the long jump. Hernandez was third in the shot put and fourth in the discus.
“I was very happy with my performances competing with athletes from Rhode Island, Mass, New Hampshire and Maine,” said Hernandez. “I did not practice for this event and just went with pure athletic ability.”
Approximately 192 athletes competed in the track and field events from ages of 50 to 91 took part in the Maine Senior Games State Track and Field Championships, which drew people from across the United States and Canada.
