128 youngsters take part in Viking Run on Labor Day

CARIBOU — The annual Aroostook Savings and Loan Viking Run was held at the Caribou High School track Labor Day with less than ideal conditions, but still 128 youngsters competed in the event.

First and second graders line up for the start of a race at the Aroostook Savings and Loan Viking Run held Labor Day at Caribou High School. 128 youngsters turned out for the event, even though a sometimes heavy rain drenched the spectators and athletes.

Runners from age two through the 8th grade took part. Pre K and kindergarten runners competed in a quarter-mile run. The first, second, third and fourth graders ran a half-mile mile. The fifth, sixth, seventh, and eight graders ran one mile.

The first race of the day was for the kids not yet in school. Lars Spooner was the fastest boy, followed by Gavin Bernard and Andrew Ring. In the girls division Madelynn Deprey took first, with Claire Ouellete second and Teanne Ewings third.

The top three finishers in grades one and two for the boys were Ari Plante, Oliver Peterson and Colin Plante. Eva Callionas topped the girls division. Amalla Peterson and Annalise Jandreau were second and third.

Alex Bouchard was the fastest boy in grades three and four. Parker Deprey finished only one second behind. Aidan Plante was third. Kaylan Krul was the top finisher for the girls. Abigail Wimmer and Taylor Skidgel finished second and third.

The fifth and sixth grade winner was Evan Desmond, followed closely by Dawson Hebert and Alex Ezzy. For the girls Kassie Krul was the top competitor. Sarae Greenier and Christina Skidgel finished second and third, separated by only one second.

In the seventh and eighth grade division Dillon Beckum set a new meet record, cruising the mile in 5:11. Jacob O’Berry was second and Kameran Husain third. Anna Soderberg was the fastest girl, followed by Eileen Patton and Olivia Engstrom.
