Harry Hafford, chairperson of the Northern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery Corporation in Caribou, with Andre Dumais, ceremony chairman, invite all citizens to attend the annual POW/MIA Ceremony on Friday, Sept. 16 beginning at 1 p.m. at the NMVC located on the Lombard Road.
The program for the annual ceremony will include Posting of Colors by the Loring Job Corps Color Guard, under the direction of SMSGT Roger Felix; the National Anthem, to be performed by Claudia Stevens & Friends; and an Invocation and Benediction will be offered by Rev. Mary Lou Brown.
General Brent Boyles, Deputy ADJM General, Maine National Guard, will be the keynote speaker during the afternoon event. Other speakers will include Hafford; Sharon Campbell, regional representative for U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe; Phil Bosse, state office representative for U.S. Sen. Susan Collins; and Barbara Hayslett, district representative for U.S. Congressman Michael Michaud.
Following the guest speakers, will be the placing of the POW/MIA Memorial Wreath by Gen. Boyles and Hafford; a 21-gun salute performed by the Legion Riders, American Legion Post 147, Madawaska; and “Tap” by Fred Ormezanni.
The third Friday of September each year is set aside for keeping the solemn promise to service men and women to never forget and always remembers those who have yet to return home.
