The Presque Isle Wildcats and the Caribou Vikings met on the golf course for the first time this season last Wednesday, with PI coming out on top by 11 strokes in the match held at Caribou Country Club.
PI totalled 173 strokes, with Evan Waddell leading the way as the medalist with a round of 38. Adam Flynn, Connor Shaw and Gabe Player all shot 45s and the other starter, Cody Merrill, came in with a 46.
Caribou (184 strokes) received a very solid round from Matt Kamm, whose 43 served as the low round for the host Vikings. Ben Wyman carded a 46, Caleb Chapman a 47 and Reggie Rideout a 48 to back Kamm’s performance, with Cory Rideout finishing with a 54.
The two Class B Penobscot Valley Conference squads will meet again at Presque Isle Country Club Sept. 27.
On Monday, Caribou hosted Houlton and won the match, 183-187. Wyman and Kamm were co-medalists with scores of 42. Reggie Rideout had a 48, Chapman a 51 and Connor Thibeault a 55 for the winners, now 2-1 on the season.
Cole McLaughlin was the Shires’ top golfer with a 43 on the day.
Fort Fairfield took on Hodgdon at Houlton Community Golf Course last Wednesday and the Tigers stayed undefeated on the season by compiling 172 strokes compared to 212 for the Hawks.
Even though Hodgdon featured the medalist as Chris Wallace shot the low round of the day with a 38, the Tigers had more consistency with three golfers shooting 42 or lower and all five starters compiling rounds of 50 or less.
Billy Weissman led FF with a 41 and both Robbie Watson and Noah Bernard had 42s. Dereck Dufour had a 47 and Landon Towle a 49 for the Tigers.
