Down for the count

THE LAST LINGERING STRUCTURAL PIECES of the former Loring Air Force Base’s Central Heating Plant finally came down on Sept. 30, just about six weeks after efforts to implode the structure fell short. The giant excavator with a shear on the end of it, which is responsible for the building’s demolition, arrived in The County mid-September; at the time, officials accurately suggested it would take about two weeks until the building was finally down. The building site is slated to be cleaned up by winter.
