UMPI snaps losing skid with win over Fisher
PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine-Presque Isle men’s soccer team defeated a short-handed Falcons team from Fisher College on Saturday, 11-1.
The win snaps a 7-game losing streak for the Owls and improves their record to 3-7 on the season. Due to a smaller roster, Fisher played the contest with seven players.
UMPI jumped out in front early with a goal by Kyle Corrigan of Caribou, less than two minutes into the game. By halftime the Owls held a 4-0 advantage. They were up 11-0 with just over five minutes left in the contest before Fisher was able to break up the shutout with a goal by the Keven McLaurin.
Corrigan finished the contest with three goals and three assists.
On Sunday the Owls lost a close match to SUNY-Canton, 2-0. The game was scoreless until the final nine minutes of play.
UMPI fell to 3-8 on the season while SUNY-Canton improved to 9-6-2.
The Owls play again on Sunday against Thomas College in Waterville.
