AR Gloria RingdahlNew Sweden — Gloria E. Ringdahl, 70, died peacefully October 11, 2011, at her New Sweden residence. She was born in Worcester, MA. August 21, 1941 the daughter of the late William and Alice (Jacobson) Johnson. She attended the New Sweden schools and was a graduate of Caribou High School. Mrs.  Ringdahl was employed by Northern National Bank and then Casco Northern for many years, retiring as a loan officer in 1991. Following her retirement she was employed in the pharmacy at Rite Aid in Caribou for several years.  Gloria was a member of the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church and was a life member of the New Sweden Historical Society, serving as treasurer since 1999. She loved to knit and spend time fishing with her family. She enjoyed spending countless hours in her garden as well as canning in the fall.

She is survived by her five children, Steven Sandstrom and his wife, Sally of New Sweden, Susan McCarthy and her husband, Mike of Woodland, Scott Sandstrom and his friend, Merrie Ridgely of New Sweden, Shawn Sandstrom and his wife, Hope of New Sweden and Simon Sandstrom and his wife, April of Portland; four stepchildren, Cindy Peterson of Montana, Marcia Stohlberg of Caribou, Ric Ringdahl of West Gardiner and Carrie Sawyer of Gray; her sister and brother-in-law, Glenis and George Orlowski of Bolingbrook, Ill.; her grandchildren, Allyson Bell, Chad McCarthy, Jessie Sandstrom, Jordan Sandstrom, Chrystal Sandstrom, Brooklyn Sandstrom and Lucy Sandstrom; one great-granddaughter, Lillian Bell; two nieces, Lynn Scheimann and Lisa McLaughlin; one nephew, William Orlowski. Mrs. Ringdahl was predeceased by her husband, Frederic  “Penner” Ringdahl in 2010. 

Friends visited with the family 6-8 pm Thursday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou.  Memorial services were held 2 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2011, from the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church with Rev. Gordon Compton officiating. Interment will be in the New Sweden Cemetery.
