Regular soccer season finishes

The regular high school soccer season has finished with several teams in playoff contention.
On Monday night, the Houlton Lady Shires pulled out a big win with playoff ramifications over visiting Madawaska, 2-1.
Amanda Fogarty took a Mikaelah Tracy pass for a first-half goal and then Alana Pratt picked up a Fogarty assist to snap a 1-1 tie with 31:20 left in the game. Goalie Marina Cameron had two saves on six shots.
    For Madawaska, goalie Amanda Nadeau had 20 saves on 29 shots faced.
The Houlton Shiretowners had to work hard and fast last Saturday in Calais to come away with another win. The Shires trailed until the final 25 minutes when they racked up four goals to erase a two-goal deficit for a 5-3 victory.
Jimmy Fitzpatrick and Kyle Bouchard each scored twice, while Nick Guiod added a single tally. Brandon Ward made two assists and Jordan Russell one.
Last Friday, the East Grand girls picked up a 6-0 win over visiting Hodgdon behind Shaunna Beaudoin, who recorded a hat trick, while Lauren Morse had a goal and assist. Single tallies were scored by Cassidy Wood and Emily Massey.
East Grand goalie Jayne Cousins made nine saves, while Kim Levesque of Hodgdon had 21 saves.
The Lady Hawks were undermanned as they competed with only nine players. In second half action, the coaches agreed to play nine on nine instead of the usual 11 on 11.
In boys’ action, Hodgdon overtook East Grand, 6-2.
Matt Harmon scored twice and an added an assist, while Drew Gough cracked the net for two goals and Shiloh Bond and Chris Hudson each scored a single marker. Devon Logie added an assist, while Tristan Larson and Tyler Barton combined in net to stop 10 of 14 shots.
For East Grand, Neil Noble and Alex Stoddard each scored, while Logan Crone chipped in with an assist. Goalie Alex Brittain rejected 21 of 29 shots faced.
In last week’s soccer action, the Greenville Lakers traveled to Dyer Brook on Thursday and nipped the Lady Warriors 1-0 on Miranda Drinkwater’s unassisted goal 15 minutes into the second half.
SACS goalie Mallory Lawlor had 15 saves on 16 shots.
Playing in Presque Isle last Friday, the Southern Aroostook Warriors were edged 3-2 by Madawaska.
The Owls scored two first-half tallies, while picking up another in the second half for the win.
Joe Frazier scored a tally in the first half for Southern Aroostook, on a Nathan Caron assist, while Dylan Porter added the second goal unassisted. Goalie Jesse Boulier stopped 15 of 18 shots.
The Woodland Dragons blanked host East Grand last Thursday, 7-0, with four goals in the first half of action. East Grand goalie Alex Brittain saw 34 shot attempts and made 25 saves.
Last Wednesday, the Houlton soccer teams traveled to Hodgdon for their games. The Lady Shires shut out Hodgdon, 12-0, while despite the game being tied at halftime, 1-all, the Shiretowners dominated the second half for a 6-1 victory.
Nick Guiod led Houlton with a goal and assist, while Dan Howe, Kyle Bouchard, Jimmy Fitzpatrick, Barrett Dunn and Isaac Cone all scored single tallies.
For Hodgdon, Keegan Gardner booted in a penalty kick.
Houlton goalie Kole Buzzeo had eight saves, while Hodgdon goalie Chris Hudson stopped 26 shots faced.
On the girls’ side, the score was close until the close of the first half when Houlton went ahead 4-0 and then scored the rest of their goals in the second half. Mikaelah Tracy booted in four goals, while Alana Pratt scored three. Amanda Fogarty and Bre Longstaff each scored twice and Ally Carmichael had the first goal of the game.
Goalie Marina Cameron made two saves, while Hodgdon’s Kim Levesque had 34 saves.
Last Tuesday, the Easton Lady Bears dropped visiting East Grand, 11-2.
Kim Stoddard and Lauren Morse scored for the Lady Vikings, while Jayne Cousins had 11 saves on 23 shots faced.
At Woodland, the Southern Aroostook girls brought home a 2-1 win over Woodland behind Jillian Diaferio’s tallies.
Diaferio scored the game-winning goal unassisted with 10:22 left in the game to snap a 1-all tie. Daiferio scored an unassisted goal in the first half before Woodland’s Hope Howard tied the game.
Goalie Lawlor made five saves on six shots, while Woodland’s Taylor Cochran stopped 19 of 30 shots.
The Easton Bears rolled over East Grand last Tuesday, 16-0, while East Grand goalie Brittain set back 14 of 34 shots faced.
At Presque Isle last Tuesday, the Ashland Hornets defeated Katahdin, 2-0.
Katahdin goalie Jesse McNally had 10 saves on 15 shots.
