Firemen deserve better
To the editor:
Confused again I am. It’s the situation with our City Manager and the Presque Isle City Council stirring up the pot with our Fire Department.
We have one of the finest fire departments in the whole state, right from our chief to the full-time staff to our volunteers. Thank you all for the many hours of risk taking and positive attitude you have all had over the years. What a pity our Chief doesn’t want to openly give comments to the WAGM TV staff. Chief White did someone tell you to bite your tongue?
I sure hope our department doesn’t become so discouraged that some day they don’t know who is the first responder, who drives the ladder truck and who drives the truck with all the hoses. Speaking of hoses I hope the City Council and City Manager are not out to give our fine fire department a hose job. I also hope that some day our fire department doesn’t get so small that those left will be taking the new Street Car to an emergency and find that the Caribou, Fort Fairfield or Mapleton crews are already there and have the fire extinguished. Fine firefighters please go forward and don’t back up.
