BSP taking reservations as of January 17
MILLINOCKET — On Tuesday, Jan. 17, reservations will be available for Baxter State Park’s 2012 camping season.
On the 17th only, campers can make a maximum of two reservations for any period during the May 15 to Oct. 15 camping season. Officials limit opening day reservations to a maximum of 20 percent of any campground on any day. Campers can make reservations on a first come-first served basis. Doors will open at Park Headquarters in Millinocket at 7 a.m. and the reservation office will begin booking reservations at 8 a.m.
On Jan. 17 staff will also begin the standard rolling reservation system with leantos, tent sites and cabins becoming available for reservation 120 days prior to the reservation date.
In 2011, BSP crews completed construction of a day shelter at Chimney Pond. Plans for 2012 include the construction of a new leanto at Center Pond and the relocation of the Middle Fowler South tent site.
