Local teams compete in Nordic event
MADAWASKA — The Caribou High School boys and girls Nordic ski teams picked up another win last week.
The Caribou boys won the meet in Madawaska on Jan. 3 with 10 points, followed by Fort Kent (48), Madawaska (53), Presque Isle (64), Fort Fairfield (142) and Ashland (143)
Caribou was also tops for the girls with 11 points, followed by Fort Kent (47), Ashland (86), Fort Fairfield (97) and Presque Isle (124).
In the girls’ 5K classic race Ashley Richards of Caribou was first across the finish line in a time of 19:25. Other local skiers in the top 10 include: 2, Katie Plourde, Car, 19:48 3, Hannah Streinz, Ash, 20:10; 4, MacKenzie Belyea, Car, 20:10; 5, Sarah Doak, Car, 20:29; 7, Chelsea Bard, Car, 20:44; 8, Samantha Murchison, Car, 20:50; 9, Meredith Sleeper, Car, 21:01; and 10, Kendra Stephens, Car, 21:17.
In the boys’ 5K classic race Caribou’s Caleb Chapman won with a time of 15:51. Other local skiers in the top 10 include: 2, Jesse Sandstrom, Car, 16:37; 3, Ryan Washington, Car, 16:40; 4, Josh Kovach, Car, 17:32; 5, John Rochester, PI, 17:32; 7, Brendan Cyr, Car, 17:55; 8, Jesse Rochester, PI, 18:00; and 9, Kjetil Rossignol, Car, 18:03.
