BASELINE MOVE — UMPI’s Renee Moore looks to make a move against a Houghton College player. The Owls lost the game, 79-53.
Emily Pelletier paced the Owls with 27 points.
At home on Thursday taking on Houghton College in the team’s first game after the holiday break, the Owls found themselves still in the game, down seven, 55-48, with just over eight minutes remaining. The Highlanders took over from there however, finishing the game on a 24-5 run. The result was a 79-53 defeat at the hands of the visitors from the Empire State.
Slow starts after both the opening tip and the start of the second half forced the under-manned UMPI (3-7) squad to expend a great deal of energy in the middle of each half just to get back into the game.
The Owls put a trio of scorers in double figures led by Rashell Saucier of Washburn with 15 points. Emily Pelletier of Fort Kent and Olivia McNally of Sherman chipped in 13 and 11, respectively.
In the end however, it was UMPI’s 29 turnovers that did the team in.
