CARIBOU — Officials with Professional Home Nursing, which serves the greater central Aroostook region, were informed in late December that PHN has been named to the 2011 HomeCare Elite, a compilation of the top-performing home health agencies in the United States.

This is the sixth year that HomeCare Elite has identified the top 25 percent of agencies, as well as highlighting the top-ranked 500 and 100 agencies in the nation. The 2011 HomeCare Elite is brought to the industry by both OCS HomeCare and DecisionHealth. The data used for their analysis of companies was compiled from publicly available information.
Of the past six years this recognition has been offered, Professional Home Nursing has made the top 25 percent all six years and was ranked in the top 500 agencies for two years.
“This is the first year that Professional Home Nursing has made the Top 100 for HomeCare Elite,” said Katherine Anderson, CEO and co-owner of PHN, adding that data from all skilled home care agencies in the country — nearly 10,000 — is submitted for HomeCare Elite.
Professional Home Nursing is the only agency in Maine and one of only five in all of New England to make the Top 100 in HomeCare Elite for 2011.
Anderson attributes the agency’s success to its quality staff and efficiency in operations.
“Our goal is to hire only individuals that we would want to care for us or our own families,” she said. “Being a private business, I believe we can more efficiently operate in these tough economic times,” Anderson added. “Achieving the HomeCare Elite award is a challenge because it is based on financial outcomes as well as the clinical outcomes.”
