If you just happened to have taken notice of how full the local restaurants seemed to be on Feb. 10, or maybe wondered why the parking lot at the Caribou Recreation and Wellness Center was so full, you obviously didn’t hear about the annual Caribou Parks and Recreation Department’s Father/Daughter Sweetheart Dance.
According to Kathy Mazzuchelli, Parks and Recreation director, 384 couples (or in some cases trios) promenaded into the gymnasium at the Wellness Center for an evening filled with music, dancing and memories.
The gym was filled with energy as young ladies, some a bit shy at first, danced with their “dates” for the evening dancing to the music of everything from “Cotton-eyed Joe” and “YMCA” to “Butterfly Kisses,” and many were pleasantly surprised at the fancy footwork their partners displayed.
Throughout the evening affair, door prizes were awarded to the couples. Lily McCrossin and her Dad Seth won the grand door prize, an X-Box 360, donated by Caribou native and former parks and recreation employee Chris Pelletier.
The annual dance is a date that many young ladies have circled on the family calendar well in advance, anticipating that special evening during which they have their Dad’s, grandfather’s, uncle or brother’s undivided attention. Even though it is just for a few hours — the memories for both will be tucked away forever.
