Fire
By Emma Beaulieu
Blazing fire takes over the town,
People running all around.
Families’ homes and crops,
Flames rising from rooftops.
Run, run, leave the town
Before it burns you to the ground.
Go, go run and hide
To a nearby village, lake, or countryside.
Stay away and don’t go near,
Forget the sounds you used to hear.
Steel drums playing loud,
Calling a large village crowd.
Help yourself, adapt to life
In a new place with your wife.
Raise your children to be hopeful
And always remember to be careful.

Ghost
By Patrick Cash
The wisp breeze awakens.
Soft whistles blow.
Time to take a look,
Time to see the soot.
Morning starts with moans.
Memories.
Every scream,
Every holler.
Just one more slot taken up in the large Nazi fire.
Young children come with smiles,
They think that they’ll be treated like they’re on vacation.
The welcoming, not any more than an allusion,
You hear the wind,
Everyone goes silent.
You see the fire,
You see the ashes.
Blinded by the ashes,
Few know who is next in line,
No one knows who’s body will be the next to be turned to ashes.
The dreams are lost as soon as they come.
Holidays are forgotten,
Celebrated by few.
Christmas never came,
Christmas has never stopped.
Seeing all the escapes fail
Reminds us of our fear,
Reminds me of my family,
Reminds me of my dear.
I am a ghost that’s beheld in everyone,
I see everyone,
I have been everyone.

More Tears
By Ryan Cochran
There are veterans who protected us,
While some of us were on the school bus.
They risked their lives for everyone.
They never would have any fun.
They took time away from their homes
To make sure we were safe in ours.
They might have to get harmed,
From the other people who are armed.
My dad was in the army.
He was gone for 2 years
My mom’s eyes were full of tears.
He was stationed in Iraq.
Most of the time he was training.
I don’t think it was raining.
He called us every night.
To tell us he was safe
from the fight.
He went in 2004.
He was there for a lot more.
He used artillery in the field.
When he fired he would have to yield.
He came back two years later.
He was safe and sound.
My mom drove him home.
There was writing in the snow.
My cousins and aunts and uncles
Painted things like “welcome back our hero.”
He was gone for two years,
But even though he was safe
There were still more tears.

Day/Night
By John Saucier
Day
Light, ready
Working, long, hard
Tiring, exciting, sleeping,
snoring
Rest, peace, quiet
Dark, dreamy
Night.

Polar Bears
By Cali Quirion
Prefer to eat seals than,
Oatmeal. They are
Large and pretty
Animals. They can
Roar loudly.
Baby polar bears love
Each other,
And stick together.
Range in size from big to small,
Swimming is their “thing.”
And they can smell
from really far away.
Rebels they are, they can
Eat what they want.
Cold is what they like.
One or two cubs per mom.
Oh my, they can weigh
300 to 1,200 pounds.
Look at the scale!

Fish/Moose
By Hunter Haggerty
Fish
Thick, long
Swimming, migrating, resting
Speckled, slimy, stinky, tall
Chased, grazing, protecting
Fat, slow
Moose.
