The Caribou Ecumenical Food Pantry (CEFP) will for the fourth time be a participant in the Feinstein Foundation Campaign for Ending Hunger. According to Jessica Feeley, CEFP coordinator, the Cranston, Rhode Island group selects pantries and soup kitchens throughout the U.S. to take part in this annual distribution of $1 million by the Feinstein Foundation. Each pantry or kitchen involved in the campaign receives a portion of the money, based on the amount collected.

“The fund-raising drive which extends from March 1 to April 30, is unique,” said Feeley, “in that it is also a food collection drive. In addition to any funds donated to the pantry during the two months, we will also be accepting donations of food items to stock the pantry. According to the Challenge rules, each item donated counts as one dollar in the fund-raising total,” she added.

The Caribou Ecumenical Food Pantry serves the towns of Caribou, Connor Township, Perham, Wade, Washburn and Woodland. CEFP is a volunteer organization supported by a governing board comprised of local churches including Gray United Methodist Church, Holy Rosary, Faith Lutheran, St. Luke’s, Caribou Assembly of God, Unitarian/Universalist, Church of the Nazarene, all of Caribou, and the Lidstone Memorial United Methodist Church in Washburn.

“The board is also asking members of our communities to donate to the pantry,” stated Feeley. “Donations of food or cash may be dropped off at our member churches or at the CEFP Pantry located at 49 Herschel Street, Suite 2, in Caribou, on Tuesday or Thursday mornings, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and noon. If these hours are inconvenient, the pantry will also be open to collect donations on Sunday, April 22 from 1 to 4 p.m.”

Monetary donations can also be mailed to The Caribou Ecumenical Food Pantry, P.O. Box 1315, Caribou, ME 04736.
