Searles, Stillman A., 86, of Caribou, in Van Buren, on March 25, 2012. In keeping with Stillman’s wishes, a private graveside service will be conducted at Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou, at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield.


CARIBOU – Stillman A. Searles, 86, husband of Kathleen M. (Michaud) Searles, passed away Sunday morning, March 25, 2012, at a Van Buren nursing facility, after an extended illness. He was born February 18, 1926, in Caribou, the son of Herbert & Hilda (Walton) Searles.

He was educated in the Caribou School System and had been employed in the farming industry for many years as well as Birdseye, Caribou, McCain Foods, Easton and Washburn and A&P Processing Plant, Fort Fairfield.

Mr. Searles was married to Kathleen M. Michaud on June 4, 1946, loved to fish and pick fiddleheads, and greatly enjoyed helping his son, Al to clear and develop his land.

In addition to his parents, Stillman was predeceased by one son, Elwood Searles; two sisters, Lucy Nadeau and “Wink” Skidgell.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Kathleen M. Searles of Van Buren; two sons and daughters-in-law, Albert and Martina Searles of Caribou, and Roger and Rose Marie Searles of Van Buren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward “Boob” and Rose Searles, and Wendell and Lillian Searles; one sister, Deanie Warner, all of Caribou; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Stillman also leaves behind a brother-in-law and his wife, Reynold and Laurena Michaud of Caribou; and a sister-in-law, Vi Swenson and her husband, Randy of Gardner, MA; special friends, Lawrence and Mavis Gahagan of Caribou.

In keeping with Stillman’s wishes, a private graveside service will be conducted at Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou, at a later date. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Searles to the American Heart Association, Founder Affiliate, 51 US Route 1, Suite M, Scarborough, ME 04074. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield.
