Human Resource seminar is April 19

    The Northeast Society of Human Resource Managers is hosting a free seminar April 19 for the general public entitled “No Jerks Allowed: Banning Anger, Bad Manners, Incivility, Rage and Rudeness from the Workplace.” Presented by: PBC Consulting, LLC, Peter Chavonelle
    The event will take place at Northern Maine Community College in the Edmunds Conference Center, with refreshments at 7:30 a.m. and the seminar following at 8 a.m.
    “For the past several years, experts have agreed that there has been a general breakdown of civility,” said Ryan Bushey, one of the event organizers. “Common courtesy has become uncommon, while civility, manners and politeness seem to have disappeared. It appears that many people are selfish, angry, rude and mean-spirited in stores, supermarkets and virtually all areas of society. Bullying is an issue in schools and work environments.”
    If allowed to exist, this behavior can result in a toxic environment where the daily assault of selfish and inconsiderate behavior has a negative impact upon employee morale and productivity, he added. Workplace incivility has become rampant—-rude, petty, mean, bullying, back-stabbing and disrespectful bosses and co-workers are responsible for job stress, low morale and more. From the impact on productivity and the bottom-line to the risk of increased litigation, the financial impact on business is immeasurable. This presentation explores common workplace maladies and offers suggestions as to how to prevent a toxic work environment from negatively impacting your workplace.
