Sale of Cyr photos to benefit students
PRESQUE ISLE — Photographs from well-known local photographer Paul A. Cyr will be on display in Northern Maine Community College’s Edmunds Library during the month of April. The Cyr display is an opportunity to both draw members of the public to campus during a time when the college is celebrating Community College Month, as well as to raise funds to support scholarships for NMCC students.

will have his work displayed in the library at Northern Maine Community College during the month of April. Photographs are available for purchase, with the proceeds supporting student scholarships at the college.
“We have a wonderful library facility, and we like to have members of the community come in so that they see what we have to offer and become aware that they can use us as a resource,” said Gail Roy, assistant dean of learning resources. “Hosting events that feature local artists such as Mr. Cyr are a joy for us. We can help showcase the talents of those in our community, while hosting visitors who come to view the work.”
The display features Cyr’s scenic photographs from Aroostook County and the Katahdin area. According to Cyr, he spends an hour or two each morning traveling around The County taking photographs, enjoying challenges such as getting the light right and the “hunt” of finding an animal that is still. He is well known for his knack of being at the right place at the right time and his creative way of capturing the moment.
“I first took an interest in photography as a young teen, and kept it up until the 1990s, when I just got too busy. When digital technology became big, I took another look,” said Cyr. “I really do this for a hobby. I don’t consider myself a professional, more like an advanced amateur.”
In addition to his photography, Cyr is an entrepreneur who owns a number of rental units and a small manufacturing company named Hiperfax in the community. He lives in Presque Isle with his wife, Karen.
When he was asked to display his photos at NMCC during Community College Month, Cyr looked at it as a chance to support scholarships for students. He has approved the sale of the displayed photographs and designated that all proceeds support the NMCC scholarship fund through the NMCC Foundation.
Area residents are invited to come to the NMCC library and view Cyr’s artwork. The library is typically open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday from noon-4 p.m. Hours will be abbreviated during the first week of the month during the college’s spring break.
