Garrison, Billings win 2012 titles

    The 2012 Miss Greater Mars Hill and Little Miss Mars Hill pageants were held on Saturday, March 31. The event began with the interviews taking place in the afternoon. The pageants started at 6 p.m., with the Greater Miss contestants doing their opening routine followed by the Little Misses’ opening routine.

    Mistresses of ceremony for the evening were Michelle McLaughlin and Shelby Hallett. The evening’s competition began with sportswear for both the Little and Greater contestants, followed by the talent competition. This was followed by the Little Miss Party Dress competition and the Greater Miss Evening Gown. The Little Miss contestants told of their favorite fictional character, while the Miss contestants told of who inspired them.

    The talent competition for the Little Miss contestants began with Daisy Grant getting the crowd going by singing “Rockin‘ Robin.” Daisy was named Little Miss Friendly. She is the daughter of Jason & Brandi Grant.

    Ellen Billings is the daughter of Bryant Billings and Julie Wilcox. She did a very energetic gymnastics dance to “Sold” as her talent. Ellen was named Little Miss Mars Hill 2012 as well as Little Miss Bubbly.

    Lexie Brewer was named the first runner-up in the Miss Mars Hill 2012 Pageant on March 31. Lexie performed a lyrical dance to “Apologize” as her talent.  lo-MHLilMiss2012-cx3-sh-15

    McKenzie Green was named Little Miss Helpful and is the daughter of Donna Green. She was very convincing with her recitation of the poem “My Doggy Ate My Homework.

    Sarah Maillett performed a vocal selection entitled “Our Song.” She is the daughter of Jason and Heather Maillett. Sarah was named Little Miss Spirit and was also named the second runner -up.

   Emma Fletcher did a great job playing a medley of songs on her recorder. The daughter of Steve and Jennifer Fletcher, she was named Little Miss Cheerful.

    Jacklynn Ramsey is the daughter of Jack and Sabrina Ramsey. Named Little Miss Kind, she sang “Baby, Baby, Baby” as her talent.

    Liberty Fulton was the final contestant for the Little Miss Pageant. She sang “Stupid Cupid” as her talent and was named the first runner-up as well as receiving the award for High Ticket Sales. Little Miss Polite, Liberty is the daughter of Eric and Billie Jo Fulton.

  The Little Miss escorts were Lucas Haines, son of Joshua and Misty Haines, and Chase Hentosh, son of Dave and Keri Hentosh. They were very handsome as they performed their duties as escorts.

    The first contestant for the Miss Greater Mars Hill title was Mariah Brewer, who performed a moving rendition of “God Help the Outcasts” as her talent. She received the award for High Ticket Sales and was named the second runner-up. The daughter of Tim and Colleen Brewer, Mariah’s escort for the evening was Ross Grass. 

  Chelsea Stiggle did a great job singing “Amen” as her talent. Chelsea is the daughter of Michael and Bobbie-Jo Stiggle. Her escort for the evening was Preston Bull.

    Olivia Garrison, right, was named Miss Mars Hill 2012 during the March 31 pageant. She sang “Suds in the Bucket” as her talent and was named Miss Congeniality.  lo-mhLilMiss2012-cx4-sh-15

    Lexie Brewer was named the first runner-up. She performed a lyrical dance routine to “Apologize” as her talent. The daughter of George and Terri Brewer, Lexie was escorted by Ryan Buckley.

    Olivia Garrison sang “Suds in the Bucket” as her talent. The daughter of Gregg and Heidi Garrison, Olivia was named Miss Mars Hill 2012 as well as Miss Congeniality. She was escorted by Chandler Brewer.

    Tanika Klinger sang “Long Hot Summer” as her talent. The daughter of Janeil Klinger and Tyler Kinney, she was escorted by Brendan York.

    Entertainment was provided throughout the evening by Little Miss Mars Hill 2011 Elizabeth Hotham, who sang “Get Happy;” Miss Greater Mars Hill 2011 Whitney Klein, who performed a lyrical dance to “Set Fire to the Rain;” and Little Miss Maine Potato Queen 2011 Janelle Tweedie, who sang “Me and Bobbi McGee.”

    This was another great pageant with a wonderful group of beautiful young ladies. Thanks go to all the folks that made the pageant possible, especially to the Greater Miss Directors Mikala Woollard and Janine Stackpole and to the Little Miss Directors Kassandra Dominique and Tracey Wright.

    Little Miss Bubbly Ellen Billings performed a gymnastics dance to “Sold” in the Little Miss Mars Hill 2012 Pageant on Saturday, March 31 and was later named Little Miss Mars Hill 2012.
