Hawks split home opener against SACS

  HODGDON, Maine — The Hawks split their home opener Saturday, as Hodgdon’s baseball team defeated Southern Aroostook 8-7, while the softball squad fell 31-20.
In baseball, the Hawks (1-1) received a strong pitching effort from Nick Lunn and Tyler Sherman, who combined for nine strikeouts over seven innings.
    Leading Hodgdon were Connor Murphy with an RBI sacrifice and Jonah Sarchfield with a two-run in the fourth inning. For SACS (0-1), Trenton Cullinan had three singles and an RBI to lead the Warriors. Other SACS hitters were: Pat Goodall (single, double, RBI), Parker Walker (single, 2 RBIs).
The Hawks went ahead 8-3 after a four run sixth inning with Drew Gough scoring on a wild pitch and Lunn scoring the eventual game winner on an overthrow back to the pitcher.
In the seventh inning, the Warriors used three singles and a walk to pull the game within a run, but left a runner stranded on third with a ground out to end the game.
Last week, the Hawk baseball squad fell to Shead 19-18 in the season opener.
In softball, the Warriors (1-0) walked away with the 31-20 victory over Hodgdon (1-1), scoring 11 runs in the eighth inning. Kaitlyn Sommers led the offensive attack with a home run, two doubles and three singles. Katelyn Goodall added a triple and four singles for SACS. Rochelle Sirois pitched the win.
Alicia Rockwell led Hodgdon with four singles, while Maya Gardiner tripled, doubled and singled.
