Cats make wonderful pets that can make a child laugh and an adult a wonderful companion or a cat can be a wonderful addition for the entire family. At the Central Aroostook Humane Society we have so many beautiful adult cats still waiting for loving homes. There are black cats, gray cats and multi-colored cats all waiting for someone to love them and give them a home.

I, personally, am a firm believer in keeping cats inside. Of course, not everyone agrees with me on this matter. Inside cats normally require less vet care and expenses because inside cats do not get in fights with other cats if they are not outside. When I had a cat, Cuddles, I took her outside on a leash. She actually learned to walk quite well on it. Of course this “crazy lady” walking her cat on a leash caused quite a few people to stare and laugh as they drove by my house.

Cats are wonderful, loving companions and their requirements are easy to meet. Most importantly all cats must be spayed/neutered. If this happens, we would not have so many cats looking for a home. Cats require routine medical care, food and water, and some play time.

My 8-year-old grandson, Jackson, got his cat from the shelter two years ago. The following is an essay he wrote about his very much loved Claude.

“We were just looking at cats at the shelter. We looked at a whole lot of cats. There was one cat that sat down right in front of my dad and didn’t move. Then we looked at a few more cats. I asked my mom if I can take an orange and white cat out of his cage. His name was Claude. He laid down and let us brush him. We decided this was the perfect cat to get. We couldn’t bring him home that day because he was going to have surgery. Two years later, Claude is very healthy, and he still has those fat cheeks. My sister and I play with him all the time. I think he thinks he is a dog.  He follows us around all of the time. We love him very much.”

On Saturday, June 16, from 2-7 p.m. there will be an outside concert located on the Balance BPO grounds, behind the PI Inn & Convention Center on Green Hill Drive. Live classic rock and country covers will be provided by KEG & The Dreamers. There will be entertainment for all ages!

There are many cats like Claude at the shelter.  Please visit us and take home a friend for life.
