SACS draws winner of Woodland/Washburn

The Southern Aroostook Warriors await the winner of Woodland/Washburn for their Class D quarterfinal game in Dyer Brook. If Woodland wins, the game will be played at 3:30 p.m. and if Washburn wins, the game will be at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
Southern Aroostook is sitting still in a midst of turmoil, as their longtime coach Murray Putnam was relieved of his duties in May. Rob Betschner and David Day, along with help from Principal Jon Porter, have been manning the ship.
“It’s been quite an adjustment for the boys,” said Betschner. “They’ve done well considering everything.”
Betschner believes if the Warrior pitching staff can stay consistent, they have a chance at advancing in the tournament.
“If our pitchers throw well, we stand a chance,” he said. “It’s going to be tough. But, the boys need to stay focused and keep working hard. Nothing is for sure. You go with the hand you are dealt. All we can do is give it our best shot.”
