The Anah Shriners will be converging on Houlton June 14-16 for its annual ceremonial, but the highlight for the public will be the Shriners parade.
The parade is going to be held rain or shine at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 16.
“We usually have a better turnout for the parade in small towns than in bigger cities,” said Potentate Tony Bowers. “We are looking forward to entertaining a lot of people.”
The last time the Anah Shriners Ceremonial was held in the Shiretown was in 1967 when Herschel McIntosh was potentate.
Any parade is always enjoyable for young and old alike. The Anah Shriners parade will include motorized vehicles such as a mini-Indy car unit, 4×4 pickups, mini-antique cars, lobster boats, a go-kart group and mini-NASCAR to music featuring the Anah Shriners Band, bagpipe players, a choral group and the Oriental Band.
Also to add fun to the parade are the keystone cops and the “funsters,” which are children’s characters. Also featured will be the Sauu-Nasseu, which is like a rickshaw drawn by men to carry the potentate.
Other events open to the public are men’s and ladies’ golfing at VaJoWa Golf Club in Island Falls, starting at 8 a.m. on Friday, June 15. Cost is $50 per person, which includes a cart and lunch and a  breakfast from 6-10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, sponsored by the Monument Lodge at the Millar Civic Center.
