Public invited to ham radio event this weekend

PRESQUE ISLE — The Aroostook Amateur Radio Association will be participating in the national Amateur (Ham) Radio field day CQ contest on Saturday and Sunday, June 23-24.

Ham radio is consistently the most reliable form of emergency communications for regional, nationwide and world-wide communication when phones, cell phones and Internet are not functioning.

The event will be held at the soccer field at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, running 24 hours straight, ending Sunday at 2 p.m.

All who are interested in learning more about ham radio and seeing some of the associated equipment in use are encouraged to attend this free event.

    The public is invited.
