HOULTON, Maine — Downtown Houlton will be the place to be Aug. 17-19 for the 53rd annual Potato Feast Days celebration.
Coinciding with the three-day celebration is “Hot Diggity Dogs,” a fundraiser for the Ark Animal Sanctuary, to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the corner of Main and Mechanic streets. The event includes a bake sale, pulled pork and Italian sausage luncheon, ice cream sundaes, cotton candy, hamburgers and of course, hot dogs.
Animal lovers are encouraged to bring their pets and to drop off photos to be considered for the 2013 Calendar Pet Photo Contest.
Pets will also be available for adoption and a silent auction will be held. All proceeds are for the care of the animals.
The Ark’s mission is to rescue and provide food, shelter, medical assistance, love and compassion to any animal in need, regardless of age and medical condition that cannot otherwise be placed with a contracted facility. The Ark takes full responsibility of every animal placed with them until they find new loving and forever homes.
The Ark is a no-kill organization. Euthanasia will only be considered when a veterinarian recommends it for the best interest of the animal.
