HOULTON — University College at Houlton announced the availability of Osher Scholarships for the University of Maine System (UMS) Fall 2012 semester, which begins Sept. 4. The UMS offers Osher Scholarships to encourage more Maine people of all ages to participate in higher education. Preference is given to first-time students and scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
An Osher Scholarship will cover the cost of one university course, including tuition, fees, books and required materials. To qualify, a student must be a Maine resident, a high school graduate or GED recipient, and someone who is committed to completing a 100, 200 or developmental level university course.
The Osher Scholarship is made possible by a gift made in 2000 from The Bernard Osher Foundation. Since then, thousands of students have received scholarships and have enrolled in university courses. Once enrolled, students enjoy personalized support from experienced advisors. Students can make use of tutoring services, as well as a variety of skill-development workshops.
