Legislators for We the People

To the editor:

As reelection time draws near and campaign signs begin to appear on lawns throughout our community I am drawn to write about two local representatives — Mike and Alexander Willette, Republican candidates up for reelection.

The Willette men are in my opinion conducting themselves in a “for the people” fashion. This was evident to me last year. Out of the blue I received a telephone call one afternoon from Mike and Alex. There was a bill to be voted on relating to an Inland Fisheries and Wildlife law change. Both Alex and Mike wanted an opinion from a constituent in Aroostook County that may become affected by this bill should it pass or be rejected. Knowing that I am a registered Maine Guide and owner of an active hunting lodge within Alex’s district, they called to discuss this bill with me. After explaining the proposed bill to me, I was asked my opinion as how I felt it would affect my type of business and other local businesses either way the vote would go. I was given the time to explain how I felt!

This was a great experience to be connected to the Statehouse just moments before a vote on a bill that would affect me! The Willette men did not have the working knowledge of this industry, and took the time to reach back into The County from Augusta to see how this would affect their constituents. These men are who We the People need in Augusta! Their character exemplifies professionalism and leadership.

I urge my fellow citizens to join me in casting a vote to support them in their campaign to continue to represent our districts.
