ARSH Atwood Sperrey OB

WASHBURN – Atwood Sperrey was transported to his heavenly home on Sun., Aug. 26, 2012, at a Presque Isle hospital, as his family surrounded his bed with prayer and songs of praise. Atwood was born on Aug. 30, 1920, in Perham, to Guilford and Inez (Dodge) Sperrey. In 1939, Atwood married Dorothy (Valley) and they began their amazing 73 year journey together. Their marriage has been a wonderful example of love and commitment. Six children were honored to call him “dad”. Atwood’s family was his life, but the greatest legacy he leaves them is his faith in Jesus Christ. A man of integrity and honor, he lived his faith daily in word and deed. Even in death, he was so concerned that others come to know God and meet him in heaven.

Atwood is survived by his wife of 73 years, Dorothy; four sons, Ronald and his wife, Norma of Washburn; Llewellyn and his wife, Mary of Sutton, W. VA; Paul and his wife, Sandra of Cowpen, S.C.; and Loren and his wife, Brenda of Herman; and two daughters, Anita Cheviot and her husband, Earl of Woodland and Connie Goden and her husband, Robert of Caribou; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren; a sister, Glenna Sperrey of Washburn; and two brothers, Daryl of Washburn and Dalton of Tavares, Florida.

He was predeceased by his parents, Inez and Guilford Sperrey; and three brothers, Gardiner, Everett and Millard; and one infant grandson.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m., at the Washburn Pentecostal Church, with Pastors Bruce Blakney, David McIntyre and Dave Goupille officiating. Calling hours will be at the church from 12 to 2. Interment will be at the Riverside Extension Cemetery in Washburn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a memorial in honor of Atwood. Donations can be made to 843 Washburn Road, Washburn, ME 04786. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the professional and caring staff at TAMC. Special thanks to Rhoda, Carrie and Deana, who shared so much love and compassion during the last weeks of his life. Online condolences may be expressed at www.duncan-graves.com.
