HERSEY, Margaret F., 90, of Caribou, on August 22, 2012. Arrangements are in the care of the Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou.


AR Hersey MargaretCaribou – Margaret F. Hersey, 90, wife of the late Merle Hersey died August 22, 2012, at Presque Isle. She was born in Woodland, June 3, 1922, the daughter of the late Andrew and Fern (McNeal) Anderson. She attended the Woodland schools and was a 1940 graduate of Caribou High School. She married Merle Hersey in 1944 and together, they celebrated 56 years of marriage before his death in 2000. Mrs. Hersey was a mother, homemaker, and retail sales clerk, having been employed by Buzzell’s Clothing Store for over 34 years, retiring in 1994. She was a life member of the Henry B. Pratt Post 15 American Legion, The Colby and New Sweden Chapters of the Maine Home Extension, and attended the Covenant Church of New Sweden. Margaret enjoyed traveling throughout New England with her husband and enjoyed numerous fishing trips. After her retirement, she enjoyed reading, and making afghans for her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Frederick Gagnon of Rome; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dana and Marcy Hersey and Kirk and Betty Hersey all of Caribou and Kent and Norma Hersey of Hill City, S.D.; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Roland Anderson and Gerald and Larina Anderson all of Madawaska Lake, Gordon and Reta Anderson of Houlton and Ronald and Shirley Anderson of Utah; one sister, Mildred Chapman of New York; nine grandchildren, Tina Gagnon-Valliere, Tisha (Gagnon) Reagan, Trudy (Gagnon) Wilson, Dr. Candace Hersey-Benner, Devin, Brandy, Brye, Michael, and Jay Hersey; seven great-grandchildren, Anesha Hersey, Jacob and Jerred Morrow, Brysyn Hersey, Kianah Pelletier, Riley and Zoey Wilson, Gwyneth and Jackson Reagan and Rachael Valliere; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Dot and Phil Tomlinson. Mrs. Hersey was predeceased by a brother, Keith; a sister, Viola Milton; a great-grandchild, Taylor Reagan and a special friend, Kenneth Martin.

Friends called at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou 4-6 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2012, from the Chapel of the Mockler Funeral Home. Interment was in the Woodland Cemetery. Following the service all were invited to a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs. Hersey may do so through Caribou Public Library.
