Labor Day running events set

Caribou High School will be a hub of activity on Monday, Sept. 3 as the Viking Run and Caribou Labor Day Road Race will take place.

The Viking Run, sponsored by Aroostook Federal Savings and Loan, begins the day with races getting under way at 9 a.m. on the CHS track. Pre-K and kindergarten students will run a quarter mile, those in grades 1-4 will run a half a mile and grades 5-8 will run one mile.

The divisions are Pre-K and K, grades 1-2, grades 3-4, grades 5-6 and grades 7-8. Trophies will be awarded to the top three boys and girls in each age group. Everyone who enters will receive a T-shirt and a ribbon.

Registration is free and will begin at 8:15 a.m.

The annual Caribou Labor Day Road Race, which is the final race of the County Challenge Series, will be held with the walkers setting out on the out-and-back course at 10:30 a.m. and the runners at 11 a.m.

The course is eight-kilometers in length. Awards will be presented to the overall winners, as well as age division winners. The entry fee is $12 for adults and $10 for youth 13 years of age and younger. Registration gets under way at 9 a.m. at the CHS ski building.
